The Relentless Unforeseen is a hand-carved wood sculpture by James Gilbert. Carved wood, metal, stain, ink, varnish, and wax are brought together through an additive process of carving, joining, and surface finishing. The sculpture retains evidence of its construction, with compressed forms and hand-worked surfaces remaining visible rather than concealed.
