Self-Described as if too Often the Case is a hand-carved wood sculpture by James Gilbert. The sculpture brings together carved wood, metal, stain, varnish, and wax in an anthropomorphic form whose altered proportions and hand-shaped surfaces encourage reflection on identity, perception, and the stories objects come to embody.
